Digital Membership Cards

Crossmember now supports Digital Membership Cards, allowing clubs to generate both PDF and JPEG membership cards for members. These can be printed, saved, or even added to a digital wallet on compatible phones.

This article explains how to set them up, how the layout works, and how to preview the results before making them available to members.

Enabling Digital Membership Cards

To turn on this feature:

  1. Go to Admin → Setup → Club Setup(tab)
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page
  3. Tick the box “Enable Digital Membership Cards”
  4. Click Save

After enabling, a new tab will appear on the Admin Setup screen called:

Membership Cards

If you do not see the tab immediately, refresh the page.

Uploading your Membership Card background

On the Membership Cards tab, the first task is to upload a background image that the system will print text onto.

Requirements for the background image:

  • JPG only (no PNG, no GIF, no PDF)
  • Less than 50 KB in size
  • Exactly 85mm × 55mm, the standard credit-card size

This ensures the card prints clearly and displays correctly when exported as PDF or JPEG.

Once uploaded, Crossmember stores the image securely and uses it for all future card generations.

Setting up the card fields

Each membership card can display up to four pieces of information:

  1. Membership Number
  2. Member Name
  3. Expiry Date
  4. Membership Type

For each of these, you can configure:

a) Row Position

  • This is the distance in millimetres from the top of the card.
  • PDF generation works in millimetres.
  • If you leave the box blank, the field will not be output on the card.

b) Font Size

  • Choose the size of the printed text.
  • Larger numbers = bigger text.

c) Alignment (L / C / R)

  • L = Left aligned
  • C = Centred
  • R = Right aligned

The text aligns horizontally across the width of the card.

d) Text Prefix

This lets you add extra words before the actual value.

Examples:

  • For expiry date:
    Expiry Date:
  • For membership number:
    Member No:
  • For membership type:
    Type:

If you leave the text box blank, the value prints with no prefix.

Previewing your card layout

Once the background image and field positions are saved, the bottom section of the page lets you preview a card.

There are two separate preview boxes:

  • Preview PDF
  • Preview JPG

Enter a membership number and click the appropriate button.

Why preview both?

The PDF is generated by positioning the fields on the card in millimetres.

The JPG is generated by positioning the fields on the card in pixels.

Crossmember performs internal conversions to make the two match as closely as possible — but the alignment can never be exactly identical due to the different measurement systems.

For this reason:

We strongly recommend checking both PDF and JPEG previews and adjusting your row positions until the layout looks right on both formats.

This is normal and expected.

What members receive

Once Digital Membership Cards are enabled and configured:

On the Member’s Record page, two new buttons appear:

  • PDF Membership Card
  • JPG Membership Card

PDF version

  • Includes all membership card holders for that account (primary member + all linked family members).
  • One card per page.
  • Suitable for printing or saving as a document.

JPG version

  • Shows only the primary member’s card.
  • Provided as a single image.
  • Useful for inserting into digital wallets, including Google Wallet on Android devices.
  • Can also be added to Apple Apps that accept custom images.

Paid up members can download these at any time once the feature is active.

Summary

  • Enable Digital Membership Cards in Admin → Setup → Club Setup.
  • A new Membership Cards tab appears.
  • Upload a JPEG background image (85mm × 55mm, under 50 KB).
  • Configure row positions, alignment, prefixes and font size for the four fields.
  • Preview using a membership number in both PDF and JPEG formats.
  • Adjust field positions if needed — alignment between PDF (mm) and JPEG (pixels) is approximate.
  • Members can download both formats from their Member Record.
  • PDF includes all members on the account; JPEG is primary member only.
